Chinese New Year Concert with San Francisco Symphony

Melody of China will perform this Saturday, February 8th, as part of the Chinese New Year Concert with the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Hall as the Symphony celebrates the “Year of the Horse”. This family event includes a pre-concert Festival Reception which transforms the lobbies of Davies Symphony Hall into a Chinese festival with lion dancing, Chinese calligraphy, ribbon dancing, tea bars, children’s entertainment and “lucky” red envelopes.   Melody of China will perform several traditional selections on traditional Chinese instruments.…

Lunar New Year Performance at Oakland Museum

Chinese New Year Parade

Melody of China will be performing as part of the dedication of a new Chinese Memorial at Evergreen Cemetery in Santa Cruz on Saturday, April 5th (visitors meet at the museum and walk to Evergreen Cemetery). The memorial dedication "Feeding the Hungary Ghosts: A Celebration of Commemoration and Reconciliation" is a program of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH). Melody of China will premiere Yuanlin Chen's Coexistent Beauty at Old First Church in San Francisco on Friday, November 7th. The newly commissioned work calls for yangqin, guzheng, pipa, sheng, dizi, Chinese percussion, bass clarinet, violin, 'cello and electronics. New York composer Yuanlin Chen has composed for numerous ensembles including the BBC Scottish Symphony; he also pioneered the first electronic music studio in China and developed electronic music for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
