Composer

Dr. Chen, Yuanlin (born Guiyang China, Aug. 30, 1957), Chinese composer, Recording, Computer Music and Electronic Music expert. He started to study violin when he was nine years old. In 1972, he passed the audition and entered Guiyang Beijing Opera Troupe as a professional violinist. From 1978, he studied composition at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing under the famous Chinese composer, professor Wu Zuqiang, president of the Central Conservatory of Music. After five years studies, he had the degree of B.A. and after three more years of graduate studies, he had the degree of M.A.

From 1986, he became a teacher of the composition department of Central Conservatory of Music and the next year, he was appointed a lecturer. He established the computer and electronic music studio there, which was the first computer and electronic music studio in China. He taught sight singing, ear training, composition and electronic music.

He composed a lot of music for orchestra, chorus, chamber music, voice, instrument, Chinese instrument and electronic music. He also wrote music for television, broadcast, musical, film, dance etc. His music was performed in many places of the world, such as Australia, England, American, China and so on.

He was invited to Australia for the culture exchange program (1988) and to Japan for attending the First Pacific Composers Conference (1990).

In 1991, he passed the examination for the teacher assistant scholarship and study at State University of New York at Stony Brook. In 1996, he had the degree of PhD (Music).
